The Utility Candle Care Guide
Autumn is finally here, the leaves have changed colour, the temperature has dropped, the woolly jumpers are out and the candles are lit! Yep, that’s right, its candle season!
What better way to enjoy the colder weather than snuggling up with some good TV, snacking on some delicious food while your candle slowly burns away filling the room with autumn fragrance?
If you enjoy burning your candles, then you’re going to want to keep them looking their absolute best. We all know the feeling when your candle burns more on one side, or perhaps the wick starts leaning - An absolute nightmare!
So, to avoid all candle catastrophes, we have pulled together our top tips to keep your candles smelling and looking excellent.
1.Consider The Environment
Make sure you light your candle away from drafts or fans as this sometimes can cause soot to form around the rim of the candle (black marks) and a rapid/uneven burn. If the room is well ventilated, there should be an even burn and your candle will not only last longer, but will look beautiful!
2.Lighting The Candle
When you first light your candle, make sure it is burning for at least 1.5 – 2 hours at a time. Burning for any less can cause the candle to a tunnel, which creates a build-up of wax around the sides. Burning for any longer can cause the wick to move or slant - not cute!
3.Watch That Wick
Make sure your pool of wax remains free from wick trimmings and matches as the debris in the wax can cause the candle to burn faster (it can act as a second wick) To make the most of your candle you want a slow even burn!
4.Using a Snuffer
Instead of blowing the candle out yourself, try and use a snuffer. This will mean the candle is put out evenly and can also help to keep the wick straight in the centre. If you see the wick starting to slant, extinguish the flame and straighten the wick.
5.Control The Length
Make sure you trim your candle wick often. Long wicks can become crooked which results in a high flame and then creates sooting (that messy burnt look) The best length for your wick is around 5mm.
Follow these simple steps and you will be a candle queen/king! What better way to get cosy than to fill your home with comforting smells! Remember to shop our candles here and last but not least - enjoy!
