Who are Jellycat?
Founded in London in 1999, Jellycat design and manufacture innovative and original soft toys that are unlike any other. They combine creativity, imagination and craft to create luxurious soft toys that are built to withstand the trials and tribulations of childhood. With an air of mystery that shrouds the company, they have somehow created a cult following... and we are right at the front of the queue.
What is a Jellycat?
Whimsical, wonderful and often a little weird, Jellycat comes in all shapes and sizes. Designed in the UK, they work with UK-based designers to create these quirky bundles of pure joy. There is a good chance that without even knowing it, you'll have come across a Jellycat in your day-to-day life. The Bashful Bunny is the main contender for spotting a Jellycat in the wild. Its instantly recognisable floppy ears and best-friend appeal has paved the way for it to become a household name when shopping for little ones. But you'd be wrong in assuming that this is a soft toy brand just aimed at children. With a wide range of designs, from traditional bashful soft toys depicting dinos and dogs to the fun amuseable range that turns baked beans and buckets of popcorn into loveable pals. There truly is something for everyone.
Where Did The Name Come From?
The name was simply dreamt up by a small child with a love of jellies and cats, which combined, made them giggle. The rest was history! This perfect birth of the brand identity truly reflected the silliness and joy that Jellycat strive for.
Why are they So Popular?
Since the pandemic people have looked for comfort and happiness in whatever they can. Jellycat has always been popular, but it was thrust into the spotlight through Tik Tok during those uncertain days. Especially the amuseable food, people went wild for it! Unlike any other plush, you may come across, nothing holds a candle to a cheeky boiled egg with blushing cheeks or a smiling croissant, it just evokes a feeling in you that you can't explain. With two product drops a year, they manage to keep their selection fresh and exciting. They even retire some of the oldies but goldies making their ranges highly collectable and desirable.
How To Care For Your Jellycat?
First of all, they require lots of love and attention... but we know that won't be an issue. Most Jellycat is suitable from birth making them a great gift for all ages including newborns or young children. However, you should always check the hang tag, as some do have age recommendations. They should only ever have a surface wash with soap and rinse with cool water. You can then dry the fur with a hair dryer with little to no heat to get your fluffy pal back to full cuteness mode.
Why We Love Jellycat!
We have been stocking Jellycat for as long as we can remember. With every delivery made to one of our shops, the staff would literally jump at the chance to open the box, to reveal whatever Jellycat had in store for us. We are all guilty of having favourites but that is the joy in Jellycat, everyone has an affinity with one of the designs. They can remind you of wonderful memory from childhood or depict your all-time favourite food. There's just something in the Jellycat water that makes us want to dip our toes in.
