Little Card, Big Hug - Reasons To Write a Handwritten Letter
Staying connected with your loved ones is so important, especially with everything going on at the moment. Whether you are meeting up (socially distanced of course) or perhaps you are not ready to face the outside world just yet, sending a letter could be exactly what you need to reach out to family or friends and let them know that you are thinking of them.
1. It’s a memorable way to Let Your Loved Ones Know much you care
Writing a letter no matter how big or small can really make someone’s day. There is something so much more personal about putting pen to paper than just sending a quick text. A letter through the door will put a smile on your loved ones face and a nice message could keep them smiling all week! Whether it is a birthday, anniversary or maybe you just want to say I miss you and I can’t wait to give you a big squeeze, say it with a pen to paper.
2. It Can Help Your Mental Health Too!
Research has shown that writing a letter will not only bring joy to the recipient but will also make you feel happier too! You will release endorphins and feel extremely satisfied, especially if you make a habit of writing letters. It could be the joy that you know you will give to someone else, or maybe the physical act of putting pen to paper but your mind will thank you for it. Why not make an afternoon of writing letters for all of your friends and family, filling them in on what you’ve been up to and how you can’t wait to see them. Put the kettle on and some relaxing music in the background, and take some time to enjoy the process.
3. It Will Be a Wonderful Surprise For The Recipient
If you know that someone you love is feeling a little down, lonely or lost, a surprise like a letter through the door could be just what they need to put a spring back in their step. Of course, receiving a message virtually is also a lovely surprise, but holding something in your hands that has been written with love and with you in mind is such a lovely gesture that can be savoured.
4. It Requires all of Your Attention
As previously mentioned, a lovely text message will also put a smile on someone’s face, but a text message can be written on the go, especially if you’re a good multi-tasker. You could quickly hit send on the bus, on the train, on your way to work, or while you're out with other friends – the list goes on. However, when you are writing a letter, you can really make an activity out of it, where you put all of your attention into that one person.
5. Some Cards Are Just so Beautiful They Can Be Cherished Forever
When you receive a card or letter, you can keep it forever! Some are so beautiful you can even pop it in a little frame to display for years to come. However, if your letter is a little more personal, why not keep a box full of all your favourite sentimental bits and bobs. Then, you can look back on the things that mean the most to you whenever you need a pick me up.
6. Writing a Letter Can Spark your creativity
Putting pen to paper can really get those creative juices flowing. Why not get crafty? Whip the paints out or even take it one step further and add a splash of glitter! You never know where the process will take you, you might even start writing more and more letters for more and more people! However, if getting the scissors and glue out isn’t for you, you can always look at our beautiful selection here. We are sure there will be something for the ones you love.
