In Conversation With Alice & Chloe from Aloë Earrings
A chat with Liverpool-based Aloë, born from a friendship and a shared love of plants!
It's no hidden secret that we have fallen madly in love with Aloë and their amazing creations. From everyday wears to bold statement earrings, each pair is lovingly handmade in small batches. Meaning no two are ever the same.
After a very successful year of taking the earring world by storm! Even popping up in Hunger magazine, we managed to catch up with Alice & Chloe.
We would love to know about the lovely people behind Aloë Earrings. Could you tell us a little bit about yourselves?
ALOË is Alice and Chloe, a combination of our names and a refection of our love for plants, as in Aloe Vera!
Travel and fashion brought us together 10 years ago in Amsterdam whilst studying Fashion Design & Marketing. Proud Northerners, we are Yorkshire girls who now call Liverpool home. We currently live together in the Georgian Quarter and work from our home studio, we fill our days with lots of tea, yoga, cooking, Ru Pauls Drag Race and of course making lots of earrings :-)
What made you want to create your own earring collection and how did Aloë begin?
After a decade of friendship and working within the fashion industry as Designers for the highstreet we decided to have some fun and create our own indie brand making gorgeous earrings we love to wear. Aloë was born poolside on a holiday together in Madrid in 2019.
We love all the patterns and colours you include in your designs! Do you have anything or anyone who inspires and influences your style and your pieces?
We are big lovers of print, pattern, plants and colour. Globally influenced, we love to travel and it has been a big inspiration in our design process. As Fashion Designers by trade, we look at lifestyle and clothing trends but like to have fun with them and we have a playful approach to creating our ranges. We love to experiment with materials using a mix of hand-painted polymer clay, hand-poured resin, mother of pearl, tortoiseshell, and hammered brass. Due to their hand-crafted nature, no two pieces are ever the same and that's part of what we love most about them.
We would love to know what a working day would look like for Aloë, and what goes behind making your wonderful earrings?
Every day is different! We’re a two-woman team so we’re in charge of all design, photography, graphics, marketing, wholesale and accounts. Most mornings start with the wrapping of orders, we gift wrap each individual pair and handwrite thank you notes to all our customers which can be time-consuming but we feel it’s so important to have that personal touch with a small business! The afternoons are usually spent working on a new collection, organising stock for our stockists or keeping on top of our accounts.
You are both local to Liverpool like ourselves! Is there anywhere you're missing through this lockdown, like your favourite places to eat or shop?
After both moving to Liverpool within a year of each other we fell in love with this gorgeous part of the world. Liverpool is a fierce supporter of independents and we are so lucky to be a part of such a creative and vibrant city. We are missing so many incredible places during this lockdown! Some of our favourites include A Slower Space for our plant fix, Yogacita for a great stretch, Maray and The Quarter for flavours, Lifestyle Collective for all things nails and our favourite locals such as The Grapes, The Caledonia & Ye Cracke for after-work drinks.
What are your plans for the future?
We’re currently working from our home studio which means we’ve been lucky and lockdown hasn’t affected our working days. However, at some point this year we’re hoping to get our own design studio in central Liverpool so we can expand further- we can’t wait to decorate it!
Lastly, have you ever received any good advice that has stuck with you or words to live by?
Do what you love and do it with someone you think is the best, then you’ll never work a day in your life.
You can find some of Aloë Earrings to decorate your ears here.
